The Fetislam fortress was built by the Turks on the banks of the Danube near Kladovo, and its name means "victory of Islam". The oldest description dates back to the year 1666. Over time Fetislam changed rulers who demolished and rebuilt it, adapting it to their military-strategic needs. It was a Turkish stronghold from 1818 until 1867, when was handed over to the Serbian Prince Mihajlo along with six other cities. |
